Drawings spark anti-Danish protests
From the burning of its flag to a boycott of its brands of butter and cookies, Denmark is feeling Islamic outrage over newspaper cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
Angered by the drawings, masked Palestinian gunmen briefly took over a European Union office in Gaza yesterday. Activists in Bahrain urged street demonstrations, while Syria called for the offenders to be punished. A Saudi company paid thousands of dollars for an ad thanking a business that snubbed Danish products.
The drawings included one showing Muhammad wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a lit fuse.

POLISH OFFICIALS ACCUSE OWNERS OF COLLAPSED HALL OF NEGLIGENCE
Chorzow, Poland Survivors of Poland's worst building disaster told yesterday of how they broke down locked emergency exits in a frantic scramble to flee an exhibition hall as its roof caved in. Officials accused the collapsed building's owners of flouting safety laws. "Witnesses have told us that they stove in doors using benches and fire extinguishers," said Tomasz Tedla, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office in Katowice, the city neighbouring Chorzow. "We have to ascertain whether the doors were chained shut or if they were blocked by piles of snow. We are trying to establish whether this situation played a role in the high [death] toll." Tragedy struck the industrial town in the southern region of Silesia when the snow-laden roof of the hall, built in 2000, collapsed on Saturday on to some 200 visitors to Pigeon 2006, Europe's fourth-largest racing pigeon show. A total of 62 people were killed and 140 injured. Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro slammed the owners of the hall, saying they had flouted safety regulations and been seriously negligent.
