Jak mlodziez celebruje stan wojenny?

"WE WANTED TO BRING TANKS"

Young Poles mark 24th anniversary of the imposition of martial law

A group of young Poles marked the 24th anniversary of the imposition of martial law yesterday by donning the uniforms of communist-era police and parking an armoured vehicle outside the Warsaw home of the general responsible. "We want to show young people what the state of siege was like," said Maciej Zybula, 21, one of the group of about 20. General Wojciech Jaruzelski, now 81, decreed martial law during the night of Dec. 12, 1981, in response to the Solidarity movement. "I don't remember what the state of siege was like as I was only three months old when it was declared," Pawel Grabczak said. "We wanted to bring tanks," Mr. Zybula added, "but the Warsaw city authorities would not give us authorization."
