Festivals celebrate Polish, Ukrainian heritage

Bloor West hosts two always anticipated festivals this weekend.

POLISH FEST

The 12th annual Roncesvalles Polish Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy great local and international music, including Polish folklore, polka, and euro dance bands and entertainment on multiple stages set up in the area, basically Roncesvalles Avenue from Dundas to Queen streets.
The popular 'Dance Under The Stars' polka party will happen Saturday night. According to the event's website, guests checking out this year's fest can taste Polish cuisine such as pierogis, kielbasa, bigos (meat pies), cabbage rolls, and more from over 40 restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and bistros in the neighbourhood.
Guests can also shop at the area's boutique shops and merchants and check out the Polish Artwlk taking place in many shops along the way.

UKRAINIAN FEST

The 21st annual Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival will take over the streets of the neighbourhood this weekend, Friday to Sunday.
Discover Ukrainian culture in Canada at the street fest that has been happening since 1996. According to the event's website, there will be various forms of entertainment with Ukrainian performers from the Greater Toronto Area, rest of Canada, U.S. and Ukraine including dancers, vocalists, musicians and a special youth performance.
There will be two stages set up for the shows and guests can take part in traditional Ukrainian dance o the streets of Bloor West Village in the evening of the first two days.
Vendor kiosks will offer authentic Ukrainian food, beverages, crafts and collectibles. "Cultural pavilions will feature interactive cultural activities and displays of historical and contemporary interest," the website said, adding there will be sidewalk sales by local shops and businesses.
The festival takes place on Bloor Street West, between Jane Street and Runnymede Road.
It begins at 5 p.m. on Sept. 15 and ends at 7 p.m. on Sept. 17. There will be a parade taking place on Bloor Street West from High Park to Jane Street at 11 a.m. on Sept. 16. For more information, visit www.toronto.ukrainianfestival.com (BLOOR WEST VILLAGER, Thursday, September 14, 2017).
