Calling all Poles: London has its first 24-hour Polish digital radio station
POLSKIE RADIO
The British capital has its first 24-hour digital radio station targeting the hundreds of thousands of Poles who have gone to Britain since their country joined the European Union in 2004. Polskie Radio Londyn caters to the large Polish community in London and is the first Polish radio station in Britain to broadcast over the air as well as on the Internet. "The main aim is to build bridges between the Polish and British communities. I want to show the Poles that there is much more to do in London than go to Polish concerts and parties," said Szymon Piatek, 26, the station's founder. Since Poland joined the European Union in 2004, about two million people have left for better jobs and wages abroad. Although British government figures released in May say 400,000 Poles have come to work in Britain since 2004, the Polish community estimates the number could be as high as one million.

MILITARY Canadian military police have started using drug dogs to search troops' bags at Kandahar Air Field after being tipped about soldiers suspected of using heroin, hash and pot, say newly released documents (METRO, Monday, November 12, 2007).

Reprezentantka NDP. Byla hippisowa, ktora przemycala LSD w Biblii. Obecnie jest ksiedzem w kosciele protestanckim. Takich orginalow to mozna tylko spotkac w mojej dzielnicy, w High Parku.

Yes, it's true. DiNovo once smuggled LSD across the border in a hollowed-out Bible. A one-time street kid, Marxist-Trotskyist, corporate headhunter, United Church minister and perhaps the next leader of the provincial NDP, DiNovo's got a packed resume. Now as MPP from Parkdale-High Park, the radical rev has turned her Tommy Douglas-like social gospel to waking up the dozy NDP caucus. Her private member's bill for a $10-an-hour minimum wage was more than an occasion for fine speechifying - DiNovo turned her campaign into an extraparliamentary mission. We're counting on the Jesus-lovin' former Trot to win us back some social dem faith ("Best of Toronto", NOW, November 1-7 2007).

Prince Harry, girlfriend split
Chelsy Davy has broken up with her boyfriend, Prince Harry, a newspaper reported yesterday.
The News of the World said that Davy, a Zimbabwe-born woman who has been studying at a college in England while dating the prince, ended their three-year romance this week after losing patience with his playboy lifestyle and lack of commitment to her.
Clarence House, where Prince Harry lives, declined to confirm the report (METRO, Monday, November 12, 2007).

A proud day for Poles
Remembrance and freedom

Members of Toronto's Polish community held their heads high while their hearts remained heavy on Remembrance Day.
Yesterday marked the 89th anniversary of the armistice ending World War I, which also granted Poles their independent nation after more than a century of partition by Austria, Prussia and Russia.
"We remember the fallen soldiers but it is also a proud day because it meant we had our independence," said 71-year-old Jan Gasztold, who served as an air cadet during World War II.
Gasztold said his father was a Polish patriot who fought in skirmishes to secure independence and was then shipped to Siberia with his family during a period of domination by the former Soviet Union. The younger Gasztold followed his father out of the Soviet Union in 1941 and spent most of the next three years working on aircraft in Egypt. He came to Canada in the 1950s.
While Gasztold and several other Polish veterans participated in Remembrance Day ceremonies at Old City Hall before crossing the street for the Polish Independence Day flag-raising in Nathan Phillips Square. About 200 more marched from St. Stanislaw Roman Catholic Church on Denison St. Jan Cytowski, president of the Toronto District of the Canadian Polish Congress, said Polish people celebrate as one today. "Polish-Canadians have extra reason to celebrate," he said. "Our roots are in Poland, but our fruits are in Canada" (TORONTO SUN, Monday, November 12, 2007).

Tadeusz Gajl w "Herby Szlacheckie Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodow", zacne szlacheckie rodziny GASZTOLD przypisuje do klanu Abdank.
