Dzisiaj glosuja w Polsce w wyborach samorzadowych municypialnych, a jutro my glosujemy tu w Toronto. Jane Pitfield kontestuje obecnego burmistrza Davida Millera. Robi to dosc agresywnie.

A kto tam bedzie burmistrzem Ustki? Ktokolwiek wygral gratuluje i pozdrawiam. Ustka potrzebuje odwaznego i z wizja burmistrza + madrych, uczciwych i z sercem radnych. Aby doprowadzic miasto do slawy, a mieszkancow do dobrobytu.

Otrzymuje ciagle sygnal "zajety".

Ward 13 PARKDALE-HIGH PARK
Incumbent Bill Saundercook, a Liberal, is one of those eloquent but not entirely useful centrists who bends right and whose best moments are probably behind him. While he pioneered recycling and the green bin, he freaked out enviros by backing the shipping of T.O. trash to Kirkland Lake's Adams Mine. Saundercook has given what he has to give. Time to move on to Greg Hamara, founder of the Bloor West Village Residents Association, a former manager at the World Wildlife Fund and a key player in the Ukrainian-Canadian community. Hamara, who has the nod from the Labour Council, NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo and Lib MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj, stresses naturalization of the lakeside, TTC expansion and green city initiatives. Give this guy a voice on council ("Ward-by-ward voters guide", NOW, November 9-15 2006).

"Why you should pass of Pitfield" - www.nowtoronto.com).

HE SUPPORTS DEMOCRATIC POLICING We love a leader who brings accountability to policing, and that he has, especially when it comes to the Police Services Board. Putting gutsy lefty Pam McConnell at the helm finally opened the door to monitoring the use of stun guns, strip searches and cameras in cop cars. He's also working to make sure that Toronto's boys in blue aren't all the same damn skin colour. And perhaps best of all, Miller executed a skilful excision of hysteria-milking, demo-busting Julian Fantino and replaced the reactionary chief with the more responsive and measured Bill Blair. Applause all round ("Give our mayor the mandate he needs", NOW, November 9-15 2006).

WARD 6, MISSISSAUGA

Parrish returns to roots

With yet another landslide Hazel McCallion victory on the horizon, the most colourful race in Mississauga will be in the new Ward 6, reclaimed stomping grounds for one Carolyn Parrish. The notorious former Liberal MP has gone back to her municipal roots, back to the "trenches" where she hopes to affect real change. Her most formidable competitor is Ron Starr, an ex-city councillor and well connected businessman who has sat on many municipal committees. Ms. Parrish has finessed the fine art of using infamy to her advantage, occasionally describing herself as the MP who once stomped on Bush doll on television while canvassing door-to-door. Days before the election, the 60-year-old appeared optimistic. "We've got 1,300 signs and half of them are from people calling us," she said. "Unless something very bizarre happens, it feels good." Five other candidates, in addition to Mr. Starr, are running for the Ward 6 chair (Natalie Alcoba, "Municipal races to watch", NATIONAL POST, Saturday, November 11, 2006).

Polskie F-16 Jastrzebiami (eng. Hawk)

Osobiscie wolalbym aby nazywali sie Krakusami. Jastrzab tez jest niezla nazwa. Mocno osadzona w mitologii antycznej, jaki i w polskiej heraldyce.

Hawk

The hawk was the totemic form of the Egyptian god Horus, shown as a man's body with a hawk's head mask. Horus was particularly embodied in the pharaoh, whose funeral ceremonies often included the release of a live hawk to depict the dead king's soul flying away to its home in heaven. Likewise, the souls of Roman emperors flew to heaven as eagles, and those of Christian saints did their flying in the form of doves.
As conductor of souls, the hawk god was Khu-en-ua. Sometimes he served as the divine boatman ferrying the dead across the underground river. His name and function were hellenized as Charon, ferryman of the river Styx.
In Greece the hawk was sacred to Apollo; hence, like the eagle, a sun bird. Rome made it the totem of the god Quirinus, who was Christianized as a mythical Saint Quirinus, retaining the same totemic bird (Barbara G. Walker, "The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols & Sacred Objects").

Zbigniew Leszczyc w "Herby Szlachty Polskiej" o klanie (herbie) JASTRZEBIEC tak powiada:
"W polu blekitnem podkowa srebrna koncami do gory, w jej srodku krzyz zloty. Na helmie nad korona jastrzab ze skrzydlami troche do lotu wzniesionemi, w prawa strone tarczy skierowany, takaz podkowe z krzyzem trzyma w prawym szponie. Poczatkowo herb przedstawial tylko jastrzebia, skad pochodzi nazwa rodu Jastrzebiec, ktory rzekomo z wojewodztwa sandomierskiego sie wywodzi, pozniej w najrozniejsze strony kraju sie rozpowszechnil. Jastrzebiec nosi takze nazwe Bolesta, Bolescic, Boleszczyce, Kaniowa, Kudborz, Kudbryn, Kamiona, Lubrza, Nagora i Lazanki. Z herbu tego powstaly najrozmaitsze odmiany z jedna lub wiecej podkowami".

Nazwe "Jastrzab" dla polskiej eskadry wyloniono w konkursie, na ktory naplynelo ponad 1200 zgloszen. Dziesiec najczesciej zglaszanych to Bielik, Blyskawica, Feniks, Grom, Grot, Jastrzab, Kobuz, Krogulec, Orzel i Szerszen ("F-16 w polskich barwach", GONIEC, 10-16 listopada 2006).
