Czytam kawalki z tej ksiazki drukowane w "National Post", i jak na razie wypocinki pierwszego gliny Ontario nie robia na mnie wrazenia. Utrzymywanie prohibicji i wojna z narkotykami to nie jest chwalebne zajecie dla policji. Zamiast lomami rozbijac drzwi domow i szukac hodowli trawki, czy uganiac sie za szczeniakami z jointem w kieszeni, policjanci powinni zakasac rekawy i wziac sie do prawdziwej roboty. W Ontario jest wielu groznych przestepcow i mordercow. Walka z nimi jest rzeczywiscie niebezpieczna. Ale taka jest praca w policji. Wiadomo, wojna z narkotykami jest bezpieczna, lekka, latwa i przyjemna, dlatego Fantino i jemu podobni chcieliby aby trwala wiecznie.

OPP nab 2,200 in '07 drug busts
The Ontario Provincial Police drug section says it arrested 2,246 people across the province in 2007 for drug offences. The provincial force also dismantled 551 indoor and outdoor marijuana grow operations in which 6,000 kilograms of dried marijuana was seized. More than 160,000 marijuana plants were destroyed. The annual report from the OPP's drug section says the drugs it seized were worth $244.2 million.
OPP comissioner Julian Fantino says marijuana grow ops are a major source of revenue for organized crime. He says large quantities of marijuana are shipped to the U.S. in exchange for cocaine and cash.

Grow-op accused fear for home

The lawyer for a North York couple accused of growing and trafficking marijuana says he fears the Crown will try to take their home if they are found guilty.
Tam Ngoc Tran, 60, and Lien Thi Pham, 55, are charged. It is alleged 490 plants - some almost a metre high - were found when officers from the Toronto drug squad raided their Driftwood Ave. townhouse in January 2007.
Defence lawyer Peter Zaduk said outside court this could be one of the first cases where the Crown tries to seize a person's home if the judge registers a conviction. "The punishment should fit the crime," Zaduk said. "We don't hang people anymore for stealing food... should you take away their entire home because of some minor offence?
Inside court, Zaduk lost his bid to cross-examine police over their decision to execute the search warrant at night. The trial continues (TORONTO SUN, Tuesday, May 13, 2008).
