TRIVIA: THE LAGUIOLE

KNIFE: Elegant Lines. The history of the Laguiole goes back a good 150 years and begins in southwestern France. Laguiole - a small village on the volcanic high plateau of Massif-Central - is the birthplace and name-giver of the best-known French knife. In addition to fixed, slender capuchadou knives, at the beginning of the nineteenth century the village smiths began making a simple folding knife used by the stockbreeders and farmers of the region for their work and for many day-to-day cutting tasks. That is, until one of the village smiths decided to create something new: on the basis of a folding knife then in widespread use, the yssingeaux, he created a knife of his own. More delicately shaped, with a line falling gently to the handle end and equipped with a curved, Arab-inspired blade, it was soon the dominant knife in local trouser pockets. The designation Laguiole is not protected, which is why this type of knife is frequently copied (Oliver Lang, "The big book of knives"). *** "Milosc to blask slonca, dar losu i piekno chwili" - SAFONA.
