Wlasciwie nic wiekszego

Envoy, Rys i Droga
nie wydarzylo sie w moim zyciu dzisiaj godnego opisania. Slonce wyszlo i dalo wiecej ciepla. Prezydent Trump wytlumaczyl sie dlaczego zwolnil dyrektora FBI.

Dear Mr. Virani,

By now you will will have heard from many Canadians like me concerned about Health Canada's proposal to abandon Canada's world-class system for regulating natural health products (NHPs). I want to add my voice to the growing protest against the proposed self-care framework.

I have two main concerns about this proposal.

1. Health Canada will allow products on the market without review. How is this making my safety a priority?

Under the existing Natural Health Products Regulations, Health Canada reviews all natural health products and only approves them if sufficient evidence is submitted to show that each product is safe, effective, and high-quality. But if the self-care framework is passed as proposed, only products that are considered high-risk and some products that are considered moderate-risk will be reviewed. Health Canada will not review products that are in the low-risk category. Instead, these products will be allowed to go to market right away, meaning that anyone can begin selling products without any review from the department in our government that is responsible for public health and safety. This is not okay and concerns me greatly.

2. Canada's regulatory system for natural health products is one of the best in the world. Why abandon it now?

The current Natural Health Product Regulations were put in place in 2004 after a thorough review performed by Standing Committee on Health, which consulted with consumer groups, Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, international regulators, and reviewed feedback submitted over a six-month period. In contrast, Health Canada is now proposing to change this system based on a single consumer survey, which has had its methodology called into question by experts.

I wonder how much tax money was spent developing the Natural Health Products Regulations, and how much more will have to be spent do discard this system and develop a new one?

I realize that you are receiving countless letters and are being contacted regularly on this issue but, as a constituent, I want to ensure that we have a real dialogue on this issue and not an exchange of form letters. I am confident that you will represent me and express my view on this matter in the House of Commons, and will help to prevent this proposal from going further.

Canada is already a global leader in regulating natural health products. Let's keep it that way.

Dear Mr. Edward,

Thank you for your postcard regarding the regulation of natural health products. It is always a pleasure to hear from residents of our community. Please accept my apology for the delay in my response; my office receives a high volume of correspondence and we do our best to reply to each constituent with the information and services they require.

Our Government's primary concern is with the safety or products on the market and keeping Canadians safe.

Now more than ever, Canadians have access to a wide range of self-care products, including natural health products. In developing a new framework for self-care products, such as natural products, our government's overall goals are: to ensure consumers are properly protected; to provide the information they need to make informed choices; and to maintain access to a wide range of products.

As part of the framework, low-risk products will be allowed to go to market based on previous reviews which demonstrate their low level of risk. This will permit review efforts to be focused on products that pose a high risk to the health and safety of Canadians. Should a safety issue arise relating to a self-care product, you can be assured that the government will take appropriate action to protect Canadians.

Health Canada has created a new web page for Canadians and stakeholders, available at www.Canada.ca/selfcare-products, which serves as a central hub for all information and updates to the regulation of natural health products, and self-care products. The web page includes a fact sheet which addresses some of the myths about the self-care framework that are circulating.

Our government is still in the early stages of developing the framework, and we appreciate the valuable feedback received so far from Canadians, like you. More opportunities will be available for you to share their views as the framework develops. I hope that you will remain engaged as this work moves forward.
Thank you again for your engagement on this issue, and for sharing your perspective. I am proud to work for you, representing your concerns in Ottawa.

NOVA SCOTIA

PHARMACIST FIRED
AFTER BAKING POT
COOKIES FOR PATIENT

A pharmacist in Cape Breton has been fired and temporarily stripped of her licence for baking marijuana cookies for a patient and packaging them in a prescription bag. JoAnne Andrews agreed that her actions last September amounted to professional misconduct in a settlement reached with the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists. In a decision last week, the college says a patient gave Andrews medicinal marijuana at the pharmacy where she was practising in Sydney and that she took it home to bake into cookies. On Sept. 8, Andrews gave the cookies to the patient at the pharmacy, and was fired on Sept. 9. Under the agreement, Andrews was given a letter of reprimand, fined $1,000, had her licence suspended for 30 days and ordered to take an ethics course.
