CSIS mistakes 'disconcerting'
SPIES The Canadian Security Intelligence Service makes a "disconcerting" number of mistakes in applications for eavesdropping warrants, raising potential concerns about liberties and privacy, says a watchdog over the spy agency.
In a top-secret report, CSIS Inspector General Eva Plunkett criticizes the agency for failing to comply with policy, a lack of written documentation on important matters and gaps in the service rules.
Plunkett said in an inteview the spy service hasn't moved quickly enough to create up-to-date guidelines for an era when it is operating around the world against terrorism, not just keeping an eye on spies at home.

DRUG DEN FOUND AFTER 911 CALL
What began as a gun call at a Scarborough home ended with the discovery of a marijuana grow-op early yesterday. Toronto Police say they received a 911 call regarding the sound of gunshots just before 3 a.m. at a residence on Ingleton Blvd., northeast of McCowan Rd. and McNicoll Ave. Officers found no evidence of a shooting, but allegedly uncovered a drug den (24 HOURS, Monday, April 27, 2009).

Unprincipled pot ruling
Re: Court Win For Medical Marijuana Users, April 24.
This court decision shows again that we are a country with no principles. This non-ruling opens the door to the uncontrollable growth of marijuana - anyone now can claim that they are doing it for medical reasons.
Suan H.Booiman, White Rock, B.C. ("Letters", NATIONAL POST, Monday, April 27, 2009).

But, as we know, governments do not rule the world. It is instead a sick cabal of few, the rich and powerful. Call them the Babylonian Brotherhood or the Illuminati. The bottom line is that they fear this plant too much. They fear us growing our own medicine and putting the "criminal" companies like Pfizer and Bayer out of business. They fear us opening up our pathways in the mind; they fear the expanse in consciousness (Harry Resin, "The Cannabis Tribunal", TREATING YOURSELF, Issue 15, 2009 - www.treatingyourself.com).

"I'm just glad I didn't come home that night or my car would have been crushed as well" - FRANK KOWALSKI (Chris Doucette, "Storm hit city hard. Yesterday spent cleaning up", TORONTO SUN, Monday, April 27, 2009).
