A german court has ruled that Facebook violated its users' right to free expression by blocking their accounts over hate speech without first giving them the right to respond. Germany's federal Supreme Court upheld an appeal by two users who had been temporarily banned from the service in 2018 for derogatory comments about immigrants. It said Facebook's blanket terms and conditions for policing users' posts at the time were not enforceable under German law. The court ordered the company to warn users in advance before blocking their accounts, as well as telling them why their posts were removed.
